I just thought of a deep question!!!
If the theoretical number infinity multiplied by any other number is infinity, and any number multiplied by zero is zero, what is infinity multiplied by zero???

I know a person named April in my math class...
Speaking of math, I don't think infinity multiplied times anything other than 1 should be infinity. If infinity is the collection of all numbers, then multiply all numbers times five. The result would not include any number less than five, and as such would not be the collection of ALL numbers, would it? Just my take on something I don't know, April.
(To Chalgrish: I said April TWICE, my post is not off-topic)

Hi April. Welcome to the boards. My name on here is Constitutiona, but I'm more commonly known as Consti, Empress Consti, or Corana (long story behind that).
If you need any help, feel free to drop me a line.
As for you math nerds, start another thread, it is off topic, no matter how many times you mention April's name.

As I said, infinity is not a real number, but just a concept. There is no infinity, and there can be no infinity at all in the universe. Our minds cannot even comprehend how large infinity is. It is a number that we can only hope to grasp, but will never find success in...
And having said this, infinity is what you get when you multiply all the numbers together. once multiplied, you will have a number thats digits alone will trail off into infinity. Its value would be even larger, but really couldn't be because infinity is the end...
So, let me ask his again, what is infinity multiplied by zero???

That is an unanswerable question like 'locker slams in a hallway and noone is around to hear it. Does it make a sound?' Since none of us can comprehend the senario then we cannot find an answer.
I hope that made sense....

And actually, isn't the term we have deemed "crazy" just a statement that is only relative to what those in charge see as different???

If you were to juggle a lion, and a house cat, the end result would look something like a tattered chunk of red fabric. The cat would scratch anything within reach, and the lion would just eat you. The lesson to learn? Make sure you eat your spinach.

*takes a deep breath*
Alright I'll say it again
*takes another deep breath*
Anything...
[pause]
*deep breath*
They won't teach this to you in class, because it requires using your brain, which is discouraged in public schools because they plan on using the students as an army of brainwashed idiots...

I am mystified as why this question appears in an introduction thread but since it seems that it only takes an answer to make people move back to the original topic, I will gladly provide it.Firuweata wrote:So, let me ask his again, what is infinity multiplied by zero???
To put it bluntly, there is no philosophical debates or dark mysteries in mathematics. The logical answer is zero, as simple as that. If you have 15 apples, you can say there is 3 packs of 5 apples each or one pack of 15 or half of a pack of 30, etc. If you have zero pack of infinity or any number of apples, you still got no pack of anything at all. There is no logical contradiction in saying that if you have zero infinity, you still have nothing since you have zero of them.
However, the mathematical answer is that there is no consistent way of assigning a mathematical meaning to infinity x 0 since it's not real maths; infinity isn't a real number, in the same way that there is no value to 1/0. It's just something undefined.
For example:
1 + (infinity - infinity) = 1 + 0 = 1, but
(1 + infinity) - infinity = infinity - infinity = 0.
You can try as much as you want to make a set of rules while using infinity but it will always leads to operations that simply doesn't make any sense.
Satisfied? Now let's get back on topic:
Welcome to the forum April and sorry that your thread was hijacked.
