Apparently instead of handling this situation correctly by sending me a Private Message and asking what was ok and what not, you seem to not understand my reason for no short hand

An Example: "Tday right? I pwned these nwbs so hrd and they died lolz" "Lke OMG Are you serious?" "Yeh cuz its what I do" "Lol tru tru." "Hey did you get the DL from John?" "No he trned MIA on us. and I wsnt Happy, but he had an app. so I guess its ok"

Titles such as Dr. Mr. or Ms are allowed... you know why? Because they are titles.

Short hand on a spam thread is acceptable. Short hand on an RP is almost a sin. It offends people, and an RP is considered someone's work. A piece of art if you will. Short hands ruins the image and degrades the experience and creates the reflection of imputence and non professional qualities.

We all know what GTFO or STFU or lol means... does it make it right to use it? No..

We all know what gang signs mean, but do we really want the image of us going out flashing them in public (Mind you, we run the risk of getting shot.)

Just because we know what something means does not grant the "ok" to use it.

The fact remains. Short hand is very ill advised.

My sig, Firuweata, is not shorthand, nor is it English. It's Gaelic. And it is three proverbs that I think should apply to several members of this board.

As for shorthand "lol"s "rofl"s and the like, yes, we do know what those mean, and we all use them. If we all use them, then it would be fine.

It's all the irritating litte "2"s and "ur"s and "y"s that result of it, that do not improve my patience nor opinion of those lazy bums utilizing it, and I'm sure many people might agree, those on this board, and those perhaps thinking about joining.

I believe it's kind of hard to get members if they don't like what they see.

Ok, Everyone, listen up, because I am tired of saying it...

I know it isn't shorthand. I know it isn't English. All I was saying is that shorthand should be able to be read AND understood by everyone...

I think that shorthand is OK on the first four boards, but the RP boards should have everything typed out. It's a story, not a random jumble of letters...

I know it is annoying, but so is the president. And if we have the capacity to tolerate one, the second could easily be tolerated...

I am the one who is tired of SAYING this! Short hand; be it small, understandable, intolerable, readable, incomprehensable, is ILL-ADVISED! Does that mean people will still do it? Probably. In the RP forum it is prohibited, but as you stated the other forums are open. I said it ruins the image... I commented on how it demeans the image of the board... I used words such as ADVISED! (Does that mean to recommend or suggest? No it must mean enforce! *shakes head*)

You think shorthand is ok? Thats dandy. I dont. My oppinion and yours contradict apparently. This is not an issue of tolerance. If it was, I would have snapped eighteen thousand times already. The bottom line is, This board ill advises short hand in other forums and is prohibited in the RP forum. If you do not like it, get over it. You do not have to stay if you do not wish to.

Neco. Do NOT call anyone out again. I appreciate your defense, but I have it covered.

If you have a problem with what I do or say, pm ME. Addressing it to the public is a no no for future references.

Having read the thread carefully, I really have to put my two cents in here and say that you all seem to be saying the same thing, just in different ways and ticking each other off. I think that I agree with Ex however, that shorthand really isn't acceptable anywhere on the Board, regardless of what forum it's in or what-not. This is a message board, not a chat room, and as such, postings up here should probably consist of more... normal vocabulary for lack of a better word. Now, can we stop other people from using it 100%? More than likely not, and that is where Firu has a point that perhaps tolerance is a possibility. After all, we can't go about biting off the heads of everyone who uses shorthand. But, going back to what Ex said about it demaning the image of the Board, I have to say that I agree, and while we may somewhat tolerate some shorthand, perhaps we should all make the effort to actually write things out. It only takes a few more key-strokes anyhow, and the place will look better for it and who knows? We may just wind up with more members, perhaps interested in RPing, after seeing that this isn't just a chat board.

So, in closing, shorthand, if it MUST be used, is tolerable SOMEWHAT, but I think we should all make a concentrated effort to keep it to a BARE minimum. It'll mak the Board look better (we won't just look like a bunch of kids chatting it up about absolutely nothing) and in the long run it'll actually help out a lot too.
