I'm asking anyone who knows something about wizards/magic and vampires. what changes when a human takes their vampire form? just the teeth? can a vampire have wings? and magic, does magic grow stronger over time? is there ever a point where magic stops. is anything impossible with magic? if a wizard gets bit by a vampire and lives forever, will his power keep growing forever? please if anyone can give me any info, it would be very helpful. i need info for my RP role. Thanks to anyone who can contribute.

It depends whether you're on about stereotypical vampires or *real* vampires (yes, real. It's actually and can be medically proven)

I'll get some info up once I've come back from work.

I'll assume we're talking about the standard vampire, and I'll answer those questions not covered in the OCC.

Wizards are affected by the vampiral bite just like humans. If a wizxard has set up arcane wards, they will be able to sense vampires, combat them effectively, etc, so they can be killed, it's just a lot harder.

ok what about their magic? magic doesn't grow with time and practice does it? does magic have a limit? i know you talked about a persons energy. but for a vampire to get energy, all they have to do is bite someone huh? and drink their blood?

The energy a vampire gets from dinking blood is more rejuvenative, healing wounds, sustaining life, etc. The energy of magic - also known as mana - is seperate from the standard bodily energy to some degree. Experienced mages can attack with magic until their mana is depleted, with physical strength left over. Sadly, the ability to do this is diminishing. The majority of magic users cast spells using part mana and part of their bodily energy.

Yes. There is a limit to the energy gained from blood, ignoring the practical limit of how much the stomach can hold. And they are healed by it.

The power of magic it really controlled by the game format you are in.

The D&D vampire relies on it's class for magic power. And a vampire wizard can cast any spell proper to its character level. But due to keeping things even, it's wizard level would be much lower than a normal human of the same ECL (effective character level). The vampire does have some spell-like abilities: Polymorph (into a bat, dire bat, wolf or dire wolf) it can summon rat or bat swarms or a small pack of wolves, dominate a creature to do its will, "blood drain" and "energy drain", it can create a vampire spawn, and can climb walls as the spell spider climb. (and a few other minor things)

A vampire from the game Vampire has it a little different. It use the "blood points" it has gained to heal points, activate blood like powers, and other things like that. But its "magic power" is a natural thing connected with its "clan" or "blood line" and powers can be gained with age and action.

But the main idea is if your vampire only does enough to feed, its power will not grow too fast. But do to its "personal power" its class powers are weaker over all.

There is a lot more but not knowing the game rules. There is no telling of the answers you need.

My understanding is you have basically same ammount of magical energy always bt given enough practice it takes less energy per spell thus can accomplish more or more difficult tasks.

We're talking about real vampires, not game ones.

And generally, most spells aren't element-specific unless you have Connected.

i agree with Falconer, i've been listening to his knowledge about magic and all that, so i think that i'll stick with his theories. but that wall climbing sounds kool. i think i want to put that into the story if its alright. Falconer??? i can do with out the changing into a bat. but the summoning a pack of wolves sounds like fun. idk.

Ok "real life ones". What area of the world are you talking about?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire
It is difficult to make a single description of the folkloric vampire, because its properties vary widely between different cultures.

The appearance of the European folkloric vampire contained mostly features by which one was supposed to tell a vampiric corpse from a normal one, when the grave of a suspected vampire was opened. The vampire has a "healthy" appearance and ruddy skin, he is often plump, his nails and hair have grown and, above all, he/she is not in the least decomposed.

The most common ways to destroy the vampire are driving a wooden stake through the heart, decapitation, and incinerating the body completely. Ways to prevent a suspected vampire from rising from the grave in the first place include burying it upside-down, severing the tendons at the knees, or placing poppy seeds on the ground at the gravesite of a presumed vampire in order to keep the vampire occupied all night counting. Chinese narratives about vampires also state that if a vampire comes across a sack of rice, s/he will have to count all of the grains. There are similar myths recorded on the Indian Subcontinent. South American tales of witches and other sorts of evil or mischievous spirits or beings have a similar aspect to it.[24]

Apotropaics, i.e. objects intended to inhibit or ward off vampires (as well as other evil supernatural creatures), include garlic (confined mostly to European legends), sunlight, a branch of wild rose, the hawthorn plant, and all things sacred (e.g., holy water, a crucifix, a rosary) or an Aloe vera plant hung backwards behind the door or near it, in South American superstition.[24] This weakness on the part of the vampire varies depending on the tale. In stories of other regions, other plants of holy or mystical properties sometimes have similar effects. In Eastern legends, vampiric creatures are often similarly warded by holy devices such as Shintō seals.[23]

Vampires are sometimes considered to be shape-shifters not limited to the common bat stereotype depicted in cartoons and movies. (Rather, vampires are said to morph into a wide variety of animals such as wolves, rats, moths, spiders, and so on).

Some Vampires in European folklore are said to cast no shadow and no reflection, perhaps arising from folklore regarding the vampire's lack of a soul.[23]. However this was not universal as the Ustrel (Poland) and Vyrolakos/Tympanios (Balkans) did supposedly case shadows and reflections.

Some traditions hold that a vampire cannot enter a house unless invited, although they only have to be invited once after this they can come and go as they please without further permission.[23]

Christian tradition holds that vampires cannot enter a church or holy place, as they are servants of the devil.
Just remember don't use movies or any book written after Bram Stoker's Dracula. They are all "modern fiction" morphing the "true vampire". As for "magic" powers, other than some minor mind control and some shape change, they have none. They have enough trouble just getting by from night to night.

By real, I mean kind of a mix of Bram Stoker/Eragon mage type. And climbing skills sound appropriate. Summoning wolves sounds cool, although bear in mind, one cannot summon wolves unless there are wolves to summon. Law of Conservation of Mass there.

You can, for the most part. Elemental magic isn't so much categorizing as an indication of strength. Dark mages - like ur char - are strongest at dark magic, Earth mages at Earth magic, etc. Ur char can still do other sstuff, just not as well.

They can react faster than werewolves, but reflexes can be trained.

NP. I like helping others. 8)

No, they cannot dodge bullets, though the faster ones can dodge arrows. Overall speed is normal, so they rarely attempt to catch a victim by sprinting.

Not that some of us couldn't be caught that way.

I can't remember who said it, but HOW can vampirism be proved? Scientifically?

And aren't vampires generally associated with bats...I know that's just movies and media and stories and stuff, but that's what I think of them with. I associate werewolves with wolves more.

I think the idea of controlling certain elements is a good one though.

well could they be proven to not exist? maybe they are just really good at hiding. and isn't it said that they disentagrate when they die. it would be hard to get proof of them.
