The Golden Compass (A.K.A. Northern Lights) film.

Post by Jishdefish »

A great book, and therefore (hopefully) a great movie! I can wait for it to come out, but I still want to see it. Anyone know what I'm talking about? If not: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Golden_Compass

Looks like it may be ok, At least a couple the actors (actresses) I like. But I would guess, as with all books to movies, people will complain about it. But I may just wait for the $1 movies to watch it.

If nothing else, the book comes very highly recommended.

I always had trouble with visualizing the animals. I just couldn't ever get an image that stayed the same through the whole book. I had no idea what an ermine was until I wiki'ed it. So, I'm really looking forward to to seeing the Daemons, if nothing else.

Oh, but Jish, that's one of my favorite parts of reading a book. Everything is just ambiguous enough in your mind...

I absolutely loved this book series so I hope they dont screw it up like they did Blood and Chocolate. That one was a good movie by any other name but seriously screwed up as the book turned movie.

I also already dont like how they are renaming it. It should stay the name of the book, not Northern Lights.

I love creating the pic of the characters, creatures, and so on from books. But I have to admit, when I read Lord of the Rings I see Christopher Lee as Saruman.

I do wish you luck with the movie though. Book to movies don't really work all the time.

Hey, Avanea, what if they're changing the name for that very reason? You said Blood and Chocolate BY ANY OTHER NAME, didn't you? Just throwin' it out there, I guess.

They're really good books. The movie looks good too.

Northern Lights is the name the book was published under in the UK, I don't know about elsewhere

Oh, is that all. Well, in that case...

Meh. I'll have read it by the end of next month, I hope.

Yeah, actually the book was supposed to be called Northern Lights here too, and the series called The Golden Compasses, but there was a bit of a misunderstanding and the American publishers thought that the first book was called 'The Golden Compass' in the singular not the plural and they kinda fell in love with it, and consequently named it that just for the NA release. Don't worry about any name change, it's going to be called Golden Compass in the US, and Northern Lights in the UK.

Wait, the movie will be The Golden Compass here, and Northern Lights there, too?

Yeah, as far as I know. I saw a commercial here in the US calling it 'The Golden Compass'. So, yeah.
