hunting

Post by Niveus Draco »

I chose 'I'm keeping my muzzle shut' because I take it as the 'other' choice.

I think It's ok to hunt, but to a certain extent. For example take deer, if their weren't billions of people hunting deer then there would be millions of deer running around. But for other animals that don't reproduce that quickly then I think its just stupid. Unless they're planning on eating it. Ever heard that saying, 'Eat what you kill?'
eg:fox, rabbit....

poaching is a technique developed by the French in the culinary arts. you put a piece of food and immerse it in some liquid. for eggs, this is vinegar.

It also means illegally hunting, trapping, or fishing. In this case, I would be clearly against. There are valid reasons as to why some species shouldn't be hunted and those reasons ought to be respected.

Otherwise as long as the person eat what s/he kills then that acceptable according to my standards.

you wanna boil up vinegar and be happy with the smell. poaching eggs is in water with perhaps a little vinegar added.

I believe that the only time we as humans should be hunting is when we absolutely need it. By that I mean if you live near or in a reachable distance of a supermarket, then you don't need to hunt. The whole idea of hunting now a days is absurd when one can simply purchase their food. 'Thoughtful hunting', which is what Tempest brought up, is just as bad. You're still killing an animal for no reason justifying yourself by claming that you are going to eat it. That happens anyway, with the exception of those complete jerk offs who kill a deer, cut off the head and leave the rest to rot. There is nothing to be gained from hunting other than the hunter getting off by killing some animal with a gun. Ya, biiiiig challenge there. Nothing like hiding in a bush waiting for some deer to come along so you can point a gun at it and pull a trigger.

Point is, hunting is boring, pointless and unnecessary.

The term "acceptable" only mean adequate for the purpose of getting something to eat. In no way should this be interpreted as 1) an ideal to achieve and 2) that I consider this a sport (there is a lot of other things that I don't considers as sports, but that is for another time).

Also, the supermarket isn't really better. Most animals who make their way there were poorly treated; ranging from beak-trimming of poultry to prevent to beat each others because they are packed too closely together to pigs who have 6 to 8 foot square of space to live and are castrated so their flesh could taste better (without anesthesia in both case, you know... to reduce production costs).

So in the long run, is this better than hunting? Sure, hunters who hunt to prove how "manly" they are, have certainly missed a large part of the human social and cultural evolution. But if food accessibility is the only concept taken in consideration, then it's certainly not worse than the supermarket except in the sense that we can claim to have no blood on our hand because none of us are doing any of that dirty work behind animal farming but in the end, that certainly doesn't change much for the creatures involved.

However, I doubt that hunters do hunt because they disagree with animal farming practices.

In my opinion it's o.k. to hunt for food but otherwise no.

You’re not helping anyone out by being a loud-mouthed idiot. I would suggest that you try doing something constructive of your life. (Although it is much easier for you to simply be an idiot, it doesn’t pay nearly as well.)

What about the instinctual, cultral and traditional aspects of hunting? We are, after all, a hunter/gatherer race of omnivours. Even tho we don't have to hunt we still can, for numerous reasons. We don't have to do alot of things in todays modern world. However people continue to do them. Gardening for example. My mother pays an extra $1.50 (NZ) for 1kg of homegrown potatos. So therefore its uneconomical to cultivate your own. She still grows her own. Back to hunting. I'd like to point out that considering the high price of meat and the cost of ONE bullet (I dont know how many it takes but I'm sure that Im safe in saying one) Id say its economical to hunt. More for your money. Thats just one way of looking at it anyway. Im unbiased but scince everyones taking a negitive stance I thought I might make it a two sided discussion you know? :poke:
