City of gold?
Ok, I don't really believe in it but just wanting to see what every one’s opinion is about it. PLZ POST about what your opinion is and why you picked it. I want to know what's the logic is in it.
Presides I thought it would be fun to do.

Re: City of gold?
Well there may be a "city of gold" but with an odd classification of 'gold'. Somewhat like they did in Crystal Skull, they used the idea of knowledge being the wealth of the city. And I have seen something else that did it as seeds. Or it could even mean that there was a gold mine or other large deposit of gold in the area of the city. So it gets the name in the same way we connect areas to types of food or other things.
But the fabled city made of gold sounds just wrong. Mainly because it is such a weak building material and would not take the wear and tare of life.

Re: City of gold?
That is exactly what my opinion on the subject is, vamp.
However I only want to know what other people’s opinions are on the subject. and to know "possible or not" and or is there even the slightest possibility that it even exists (made with or without gold doesn't matter)

Re: City of gold?
One could always build a city with another metal and plate the gold on.
Or, if you wanted to be stupidly wealthy, you could use actual gold for everything.

Vamp, I'm surprised you didn't think of this one already...
What if, similar to what zerince said, the City was made out of a metal that happened to be yellow? I could certainly see that happening, as gold itself is a terrible construction item.

City of brass, copper, or bronze?
One could always construct a city of brick, and then use golden plates.

Re: City of gold?
Who said they even needed to use any metal to make the city... they could have just painted it to look gold

Re: City of gold?
I have to say, the ability to vote for all four choices seems a little pointless?
OT:
This. It is way too soft, wouldnt be able to support its own weight in buildings.
And if it was another metal (or whatever), then calling it the City of Gold would be an exaggeration and still render the original legend (i.e. of a City made of Gold) wrong. So that's no argument for the legend being right.

Pure gold might be too soft. But when have they ever used pure gold? It's often alloyed with less precious metals, like silver - hence the grading of carat's.

Re: City of gold?
Hmmm. But I remain sceptical. It would still not be worthwhile compared to better and more easily obtainable materials. Even simple plating would render it ridiculous imho.
And why secret it away? Any civilisation with this much gold to spare would likely have access to the resources to protect it, and if not, then surely trading for those resources would be a better solution than displaying it for all to see in the walls or hiding it away with no use?
Sorry but it makes no sense

Re: City of gold?
Best thought yet. We even would have a hard time getting that much gold to build a "city".
The "City of Gold" may have even been a pure red herring. Tell the bunch of people, that are looking for gold, there is a city filled with gold and they will look for that.
