As I have posted a couple of times, I don't think any of these creatures have been around as a single flesh and blood creature. But this does not weaken their power over the imagination. I love the stories and myths of these creatures, and will be really happy to say I am wrong about it as well. But I am not trying to make you see things my way, it is the people who see things like this as real that may find either the real things or what caused them to show up in myths in the first place.

Hello doompatter! welcome, you should post an intro in the intro section for a full welcome from everyone, lol :D
Well, Vampires im not so sure about, but Werewolves, maybe, and Dragons Yes, but maybe not here on this plane, our world, perhaps on other planes  . Why would they want to be here? And if you really did see one, your very lucky, perhaps it came to our plane for a reason?

that is an interesting theory blue tiger and very plosible here is my opinion however
dragons dont exist in our time, or at least not as a race i think they might exist in the future as a race and use time machines but other than that it is really complicated

If mythical creatures weren't real, how come (especially dragons) are they present in cultures over the globe? To much proof they do than proof they don't.

Im sorry but i have my own personal views on this matter and im quite sure a few people on this discussion will believe in me. Such creatures cannot be created by chance, Each religion and most countries have there own views on dragon...Does this not show a slight proof that there must of been someting??? Yes i believe that Dragons WHERE real around the time of Dinosaurs and this was most likely the case...But i do believe that there is no such thing now as they would of become extint along with the Dinosaurs.

As For Vampire, The Vampire was a myth created by peasents along time ago fearing people who had allergies to UV rays (Dont forget this is my views from personal knowledge ive aquired so dont bother with THATS NOT TRUE! you just make yourself look like a dork) these people where different and townsfolk started to create rumours about these people and therefor the Vampire was born.

As for Werewolves, This is a tricky question and im not quite sure where the myth was started and why. There is a possibility this could be true why there is a possibility it could be false. People in the past liked to exagurate things but oh well in this world anything is possible.

Please feel free to criticise anything i have just said and correct me if nececary im just sick and tired of all this flaming when people give there own point on view...Thats not what This forum is all about :) Two topics in one :D

your point of view of dragons going extinct does not explain y we have legends about them. they would hav went extinct at the same time as dinosaurs and that happened millions of years before man

That may be part of the vampire tells.

But the strange thing is both vampires and werewolves (or lycanthrops), like dragons, are known world wide. Almost all major civilizations had creatures like this. Vampires are known as eaters of life energy and many other creatures fit into the category. And lycanthrops are normally change into creatures known in the area. (lions, bores, tigers………)

I think vampires come mainly from mass hysteria and sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis is a strange thing where you wake up but not all the way. You can perceive the world around you but your mind is still putting images in what you see. I have had this happen to me a couple of times, and you can't move and you see something coming at you. And add in being tired from lack of sleep, you can say the thing you saw pulled the energy from your body. But there is a lot more to them as well.

Werewolves are about the same. I watched something a while back on they added a number of factors into where these creatures may have come from.

Well, I still believe that dragons are on a different astral plane, and that they can communicate with certain humans, and perhaps they have done so for thousands of years and thats why people know about them in all the different countries. But, dont forget the theory that ancient man may have found bones on dinasours, and considering the sizes, they thought they were bones of monsters... but apart from that, thats my theory above.
The werewolf legend is complex, and like vampirehunter42 said, theres different kinds, like Weretigers and Werecrocodiles...

I used to live in swamps, never thought of Werecrocs. That opens a whole new can of rather hilarious worms, or a good book idea.

True, vampires, Whereanimals are know through out, like some sort of great flood is also know in several cultures I've noticed mostly around the Mediterranean.

I believe in the fay folk, who are another group of beings that have had influences in many cultures worldwide, although most prominent in Europe.

With so many common factors about these beings seen through out the world, it makes more logical sense they ether did, or do exist, and had a major impact on our ancestors.

Sleep paralysis... only had it happen to me once, a few weeks ago. It's was like I could ear the door of the room opening, footsteps come into the room, a shadow falling across my bed... then repeat.

I chose kinda sorta, as I believe in them, but I don't believe they are magical. Goblins, Elves, Dwarfs... those sorts of creatures can all be explained as different variations on the same species: Humans. Dragons.. nothing physically stopping them from existing, Werewolves... the ledgend of them needing to put on a skin could be related to those tribes where the hunters where the skin of the Bear or some other predator to help them. I could go on but I'm time limited.

No dragons do not exist, they are merely a myth, maybe thousands of years ago, maybe.

Hmm isn't that the Dragon cave game? Why yes it is. Can a mod or admin help with this spam and spamer before it grows?

Now back to the topic. I can't really say I've experienced sleep paralysis. I might have but I not within recent memory. True, elves dwarves and what not could all be the same. And very true on the werewolves. I agree with that one.
I'm a crazy loon that believes in magick though. I'll go ahead and admit that I'm also admit that I'm biased too because of it.

This has made me question some of my views though. In retrospect although there is nothing physically blocking the existence of many creatures, it would be hard not to notice them.

Well, since I hold a belief in a Pre-Diluvian era (before the Flood of Noah), I think that elves were simply humans before all the radiation scrambled our genomes.

Plus, with Nephilim and other such Hybrids...

With all the variation in modern humans:
Height 4'something" to 9' (thus originating the legends of dwarves)
Skin color very dark to pale
etc.

Isn't it possible that there was a gene for pointy ears in the past that has simply died out? Also, there's some disease whose name I have forgotten that causes hairiness, aversion to light, and several other symtoms that may have led to the legends of werewolves.

Well, I heard someone mention Lycanthropy, but i dont know what that is, I think its a real disease, and thats why I dont think its right to call werewolves "Lycans".[/url]

And on that I found this link. It is a good read. And it tells on how lycanthropy is a mental disorder. And some of the history of it.

And were you trying to link to the Greek myth of Lycaon, the "first werewolf"? I saw the url caption there.

Wow..I wish I would have gotten in on this topic sooner.

First thing: The 'pointy ears' gene. There was a girl in my graduating class (I think her name was Shae) that had pointy ears. I remember this cause we had home-ec together and we were baking chocolate muffins an I was stirring the batter while she cracked the eggs and I glanced at her ears from the side of my eye and did a double take an was like 'Omg! You have elf ears! It's so cute!!' but she apparently hated them. = / lucky girl..any nerd [or at least me] would give an arm an leg to have those ears!

Second: Lycanthropy. I know how unlikely this sounds but I had a friend that was a year a head of me, name was Tamara. She had this mental disorder. She always walked around on her tip-toes so she almost always wore high heals to kinda hide it. An some of her other friends that had known her for a long time told me about her, besides the stuff she didn't tell me herself. She actually thought she turned into a wolf. At night when she went to sleep her parents had to tie her to the bed to keep her from destroying things when she was in her 'wolf state'. She even growled when she got angry o_0;

Thirdly: Vampires. Having been on the very farthest edge of obsession with vampires seance I was eight years old. I have spent hours on end researching them. Picking out what is fact or fiction. What is realistic and which of these realistic trends remain the same in a majority of the stories. In this last three years I have located an actual coven of real vampires. Now before you roll your eyes an call me crazy! Let me just say that they are not as any of the myths or movies portray them. They can walk around in the daylight, they can eat human food [including garlic  ] and of course they CAN be killed by putting a steak through there heart...but then again.. so could you. They have hardly any of the supernatural powers that have been tacked on them. An no..they don't sparkle either [/disappointment] lol. They are barely more than a human that has the need to obtain nourishment from blood or energy. I have set up meetings with the people I have met in this coven and seen that they are real for myself. You could check out the coven I found here.

Lastly and finally: Dragons. Of course I believe they exist or at least HAVE existed before. There are simply to many different cultures that have dragon stories to be ignored. I have not put as much thought an research into them as I have on vampires. But then again that is why I am here xD I already got one 'myth' debunked [unless you also include ghosts&demons], time to move on to another!

I have known two people with pointy ears, one of them is very pale and gets sick often, I don't really know if those characteristics have much in common, but she really seems very elf-like to me.

Here're my beliefs.
Dragons: Seems to me that dragons could embody everything that humans fear. Flying lizard creatures with huge teeth, fangs and can breathe fire. But the Chinese respected and loved dragons, so that idea could be invalid, except for the possibility that Dragons could (have) be(en) different in different areas.

Werewolves: Wolfmen did, and do, exist. They just don't change into wolves. I have heard, and read on this very topic, that it can be a mental disorder. However, I would view someone with a serious rage probably as being a wolf-man or wolf-woman. I think of myself as a wolf-man sometimes because I suffer from extreme rage problems and I have a powerful pack mentality. But I, and noone else on Earth, will ever change ,physically, into a wolf.

Vampires: I figure it's a matter of choice. I do not figure blood alone can keep you alive or increase your lifespan.

Elves/Dwarves/Everything else: I like to think that these races did exist hundreds and thousands of years ago. I actually have a theory on what might have happened to elves. I also figure that maybe when humans,as a species, were young there may have been many civilizations that have been lost. They say that if humans were to just disappear it wouldn't be long before our cities were gone, so why couldn't dwarven or elven cities crumble?

I feel like my typing is pretty terrible and I AM tired so if I need to clarify anything I will.
