ok, i found this excellent report on how dragons breathe fire on the net.
its long, confusing and technical, so i was wondering if anyone could kinda, simplify it for those who don't understand it...

OR..it makes na excellent read! and its Dragon Relevant so it isn't Spam!

I realize this thread is kinda old but in case no one answered...

He mentions several ways but basicly what hes saying is that the dragons have glands that produce chemicals which mix with eachother and combust. The author also mentions that while there are chemicals like this, they arent any animals known to produce them naturally. Although there are several animals that do similar things...

An example would eb the bombadier beetle! hot acid! PAIN! Anyway, a simple catalyst and fuel would be sufficient to enable a dragon to breath(spit?) fire.

*cough* retards! *cough*

Ok I don't think you guys are....quite....a way to simplifiy it would be to read the dragonology books!

Technically there is no human way to explain. Sure, there are a lot of chemicals and blah blah blah. But think of it from another view. On another planet, there may be another more flammable substance. Or if say, the inside of a dragon was similar to that of a blow torch. There are several ways to explain it. But it all depends on the dragon itself. One dragon may be able to mold a certain substance to it's own purpose, when another dragon may have to use something else, perhaps something less flammable. Like I said. It depends on the dragon. Now if you specify the species of dragon, this convorsation would be a lot less hectic.

Well, thats what I said "like a blowtorch" pretty much what the person said which got me talking in the first place. Thats how any fire is started, chemicals mixing. As you said, there is a strong possibility there are subastances we havent discovered at all, on this planet and others, but no matter the species of dragon I think the process of breathing fire would be extremely similar.

Kiar, I have read several draconology books and they are all just theorys and ideas on how something might work. Then there are a few written by people who claim to have been with or observed dragons, and there writing I find to be...lacking in facts and is more of just a fantasy of what they wish would be happeneing. I myself think there may be people who may have seen dragons or might even be them but if they were they would NOT be writing publicly about it for fear of someone hunting them down.
As for calling us retards...I dont think that is called for, I dont think its right to call someone that just because there ideas differ from yours.

If there was methane in your stomach then you would die.

Depending on whether or not you have a human metabolic system, that is, human or pretty much any other carbon-based lifeform.

thats how they said that dragons could breath fire though they had a special gland in the stomach and flint in the through i dont know if its true though :?:

Why does it have to be flint that it used thats too unnatural. All it needs is a spark to light the methane produced in its body so what if it had an organ like an electric eel and the bioelectricity sparked in its throat as it secreted the methane through its mouth?

Thanks well everyone seems to be trying to make it sound like something that couldn't possibly exist now but if you look around all the components are there

U are perfectly right if there was a special gland to hold methanaa only a spark would be needed to set it alight mayb that is what it was???

the only problem with this speculation is that it is just that, speculation! No matter how hard i look all i can come up with is possibilities and theories. By the way it wouldn't need a special organ to produce methane. As any student worth his salt the human body makes plenty after a night on the curry.
