Ideas for forum

Post by + Silver - Orbs + »

ok, these to me are some good ideas for this forum..

1. an online IRC
2. a problems and help page where users cna share problems nad help to get 'em solved
3. a polling both, to prevent polls getting mixed up with normal posts

i do realise these ideas are a lot of time for Tempy but i reckon they are ok. what d'ya people think?

1. specify what an IRC is
2. That's what the moderators and Admins Forum is for. and also, we have a F.A.Q. page, so I think thats a good idea, but its basically taken care of.
3. polling booth?! we havn't one because then everyone would be confused. "is this dragon discussion, RPG, ooc, general, feedback?!! I am so confused" CHAOS my friend! It's better this way, with every poll in its individual forum.

Thanks for thinking about everyone, but....whoa, no criticying from me today.

I have to say that Chalgriah is right here... We have a Moderators and Administrators forum for getting help and polls do just fine in their own forums.

I do think we should make the F.A.Q. page more noticeable. Something like sending newbies the link with the words 'if you have any questions consult this.' Perhaps it would curve some of the repeated questions we sometimes get regarding sigs and avatars.

what i mean by help page is like RL problems for everyone to support you. eg ; you're depressed and you don't know how to cope with it

1. And IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channel would be fun but it would require a lot of time to manage and it would be a bit complicated to have something "ready to use" from a single click. I will see if it's possible to have something like on the old board where you just had to click a link and end up in an independent chat room hosted on my server.

2. The Moderators and Admins forum is where you can have answers to pretty much all the problems encountered on the board. For RL issues, the General forum should be used, since I do not really wish to have a forum dubbed as the "Forum for the disheartened". The General forum already contains a variety of topics ranging from losing Internet connection to vacation trip. It would be a bit muddy to determine when it should belong to a "RL help forum" and when it should belong to the General forum since subjects can quickly shift from a relatively jovial position to something potentially dark and depressing and vice versa (think about the Scott/Christian/Gabe thread if the answer had been slightly different).

3. Polls are often about a specific subject, so I would be inclined to sort them in the forum we already have. Since you do not have that many active polls and unlike ezboard where polls keep bumping back at the top when someone votes, here polls are time limited and get closed automatically after xx days so it's unlikely that one day we will see the first page of a forum filled with old polls like on the old board.

So, in general, I prefer a straightforward management of the forums. What I mean by this is it's easier to manage them by broad groups rather than by precise subjects. For example, already there is some sort of confusion between the Feedbacks forum and the Moderators and Admins forum because they deal with a similar subject (one deals with forum issues and the other deals with board suggestions and website problems) and there is several topics that were posted in the wrong place between these two forums.

Also, I really appreciate suggestions even if I don't always implement them.
