March 21, 2010

Location: Somewhere over the United States

Outside the Concorde, the cold night sky was illuminated by the waning moon, the light reflecting off the plane's surface.
Inside the plane, Michael Quinn sat pouring over the strange letter he had gotten in the mail.
Greetings, Sir Quinn.

An urgent matter requires your attention in Edinburgh, Scotland. Go to the airport, to terminal 12. Security will not bother you. There, board the Concorde airliner waiting there.

Egbert Pufendorf

AUTHENTICATION CODE: Gamma Foxtrot Five

Old as it was, the authentication code matched the one in the strange document his father had left him, so Michael had told his boss he would be taking a few week's vacation and boarded the plane.

OCC: Everyone's characters received the same instructions, and will board this aircraft as it makes stops in various cities.

Ivan stepped into the plane, brushing off the early, dirty New York drizzle. He glanced out the window of the Concord, wondering how any pilot had flown in this fog. The attendant nodded to him and smiled cryptically. "The fog isn't as deep as it is thick, and we landed before it got this bad."

"Thanks, but I hadn't even asked anything yet..."

"You're welcome, please take your seat." Her open smile dissipated to a point where her teeth no longer showed. He took a seat near the back of the plane, so he could see anything that might go on. He pulled out his laptop and started the day's journal in a barrage of keystrokes, today had just started, and already he was fully intrigued.

wolf sat in his seat, watching the other passengers. he wasn't liking this random letter in the mail nor not knowing what it was about. he liked being informed and this was not making his day any better. he'd had plans and this little trip was ruining them. if whatever this was didn't make up for it he was going to bust some heads
he couldn't help but scoff as he turned around in time to see one of the passengers in the back of the plane almost immidiately pulled out a laptop. technology bums. people who liked their toys too much. he had a phone and a computer, sure, but they weren't attatched to him like his spleen
he rather liked his spleen
facing forward again, he looked at the back of the chair in front of him. no magazines. what the hell kind of flight didn't have magazines?

Jade sighed, drumming his hands along the arms of the chair, absent-mindedly piecing together baselines in his head. After a few minutes he gave up, and stared over at the guy with the laptop, a few seats up.

Oh...another blogger...

IC: Michael got up to use the restroom - on his way back, he spotted a guy who looked really POed. Stopping next to him, Michael said in a low tone, "You get a wierd letter too?"

OCC: I'm talking to Makla, for clarification.

Ivan noticed some of the passengers were looking at him funny. "What? Pen and ink aren't all that practical in the air, Jeez." He finished with a couple keystrokes and closed the computer. "So, you stonards get the same note? About getting on this plane?"

Michael nodded. "Does anyone know who this Pufendorf guy is?"

wolf grimaced and gave a short nod to the passenger who stopped next to him. "yeah, same bloody note. and all i know about this puffeymahoogit guy is that his name is damn hard on the tongue. parents must've not loved the little sucker. who names their child 'egbert'? i mean, come on..."
scoffing, he settled further into his seat

"I'd guess he's some reclusive millionaire. I hope not, I've read far too many horror stories where millionaires take a bunch of random people somewhere and they all meet tragic ends." Ivan let a short laugh follow. "Probably not. I mean 'an urgent matter requires your attention' doesn't sound very leisurely, more military than anything."

“Horror stories?” Michael shook his head, smiling. “Have you tried looking him up on the web?”

Jade popped out of his trance, to hear the blogger talking to another couple of guys about, of all things, Pufendorf. He swiveled slightly in his chair, and leaned around the headrest, eyeing the other two in turn.

'I believe I remember hearing something about him through the webs, but I can't say Im positive about that...who are you guys, anyway?'

"Michael Quinn, investment manager with International Banking." He extended his hand. "And you?"

Jade glanced at the hand, then took it gingerly, touching two fingers to the brim of his cap.

"Jadrian O'Connor, Bassist for hire, at your service."

wolf scoffed again. "bassist? hah. guess our friend eggy didn't pick us out for our professions." he raised an eyebrow at jadrian and let the implied insult hang

"Don't dis rockstars, dude." He imitated a coastal Californian accent. "I'm Ivan Kinder, journalist for hire. And what might you be, mister-high-and-mighty?"

OOC: Question obviously directed at Wolf, but Ivan doesn't know your name yet.

wolf narrowed his eyes at the passenger he just now decided to label 'tech junkie'
"i'm a lawyer. there. you want to make jokes? how about this one? how many lawyers does it take to screw in a lightbulb? we don't know because they kept getting asked these stupid questions and sued for harrasment." his gaze very clearly challenged anyone to make a comment about his profession. he knew people in his job were hated but the jokes and prods pissed him off and he wasn't in the mood today to take any of it
"and mister-high-and-mighty is only what i allow the girl i'm keeping for the night call me. my name is kailik but once people find out what an ass i am they just call me wolf."

"Guys, guys, settle down..." Michael interposed himself between them. "Lawyer, eh? Which firm? I might have worked with you before."

"alan clark and associates," wolf said, looking at the man. "you get sued or something? someone have a beef with how you handled their money?" he snorted. "that's all people do in new york. get sued and laid. screwed two different ways."

"Good analogy, but I don't think Egbert Pufendorf is trying to screw us, either way." He scratched his chin. "It is an great curiosity though. Anyone notice anything strange about this plane?"

OCC: No. Did I mess up the descrip?

IC: "No, legal counsel for a large transaction overseas. The firm was White and Levi." Michael turned to Ivan. "Like what?"

"Just the crew seemed odd to me, I don't know much about planes, so I was looking for an outside opinion." He smiled at Wolf. "Hey, I just realized. Our jobs are kind of similar, we both twist the truth for our benefit. Me to make it more interesting, you to satisfy the jury and client."

OOC: Ivan, not Jade. John is Jade.

wolf smirked. "twist the truth? i thought what people like us do is called lying. face it, nothing written down is what it actually is and nothing said is what actually happened. its human nature to make things different to fit their own views. we're a selfish race, in case you didn't notice." he settled more into his seat. slouching down so that his jacket bunched up around his head and closed his eyes
"and strange crew or not, we're in for the ride so there's no use crying about it. if they decide to drop us off in the atlantic we have no say."

Jade rolled his eyes, and stared at Wolf with obvious amusement.

"No need to go on the offense, mate. Everyone has their place. Bassists support the band, guitarists take center stage, drummers keep the beat, and lawyers make sure we never make any money. No biggee."

Jade turned to Ivan, and grinned over his glasses.

"Maybe the entire crew is made up of holograms, and the plane is actually responding to the brainwaves of Mr. Pufendorf." He winked, and settled back, humming the 'Twiligt Zone' theme.

As Tobi boarded the plane, she noted that the only passengers were a few men. She wondered if they had recieved the same letter but decided not to ask. Tobi quietly placed her carry-on in a seat and sat down beside it. Taking her long, black hair out of its pony tail, she leaned her head back on the headrest and closed her eyes.
